Bay windows comparison

Trim

The trim in the living room and entry, the French doors to the study, the entry closet, and the refurbished front door have now been stained. The original stuff (most of the trim, the windows, and the front door) match the kitchen cabinets the best. I think the new woods (French doors, a bit of the trim, and the closet door) will need another round of stain before they are finished.

Range hood

The hood above the stove has now been installed. The countertops should be installed the middle of next week so I will be even closer to a working kitchen.

Working toilet

At least I think it is... I used it tonight when I was at the house anyway.

Second floor has trim now

These are various photos I took today of the bedrooms - they each have at least one coat of paint and the trim is up.

Granite

A countertop sub came by to submit a bid. It was much better than I expected so I went ahead and ordered without getting additional bids. The granite I picked is above (Verde Butterfly). There is a good possibility that the counters will be installed at the end of next week.

Appliances version 2

This second photo was taken with flash. The cabinets look lighter in this photo.

Appliances

You can see the fridge and stove which were pushed into place but not installed. Looking better all the time.

Random stuff

The first photo was taken out of the master bedroom and over the new deck. The second two show some of the trim that is being put up around new doors on the first floor. It is supposed to look that what is around the original bay windows and will be stained. The last photo is of the master bedroom which now has one coat of paint. They were painting and putting up trim on the second floor this afternoon when I was there waiting for the appliances.

Basement

Someone inquired about the basement. As you can see, it is still pretty trashed out. It won't ever be a nice basement but it will be somewhat better once the drains get finished.

Cheery glow

Tonight when I stopped by the house the contractor was still working at the house and the lights were still on – it is certainly starting to look like someone could live there.

More of the deck is taking shape - hopefully the weather holds until they get it done.

Decks

Progress was also made on the decks. Hopefully the good weather will continue for a few more days.

Garage

The alley side of the garage has now been re-sided. The doors were also framed out so they are standard garage door size now.

Kitchen cabinets

The first two photos were taken with the flash so the wood is a bit lighter than it appears in regular light. The last one is without the flash so the photo is a bit dark but more true to the actual color of the cabinets.

Living room paint

I am not quite sure I am OK with the color of the paint in the living room. The top photo is the closest to what I was expecting. In the other photos it seems to have more yellow in it than I was expecting. However, as I have commented to you all the colors aren't showing true in the photos - so I am going to stop by the house tomorrow morning with a paint swatch in hand to see what it looks like in the natural light.

Deck

The yellow things are the piers upon which the deck will be built. The bottom deck will be 12 feet deep and as wide as the house is at that point while the upper deck will be 6 feet deep.

Trim

More and more trim is going up.

A note about the colors

I do want to point out that the colors don't look completely "right" in the photos especially those taken after dark with the flash. How they appear to each of you will also depend on the monitor settings on whatever computer you are reading this. I guess you will all just have to come visit to see for yourself...

Other random photos

These are just some other photos taken tonight after work. Since it was well after dark when I got there it was hard (as it has been with all the photos taken after work in the last few months) to get a good shot as I can never tell exactly what I am aiming at in the dark.

Study

All of the interior doors have now been installed. These are the ones in the study - french doors opening into the living room and a pocket door out the back to the stairs & bathroom. If you look closely you will notice a sheet of plywood covering the front door. The actual door has been taken down and is in the basement being refinished.
