Update

Yesterday I finished moving out of the apartment. Still have not made much headway in organizing things here at the house including unpacking the box that has the cable for my camera - thus no photos of the move at this time.

Moved (mostly)

This past weekend was the big move. Almost everything is now at the house aside from a few things still at the apartment. I am taking this afternoon off work to finish moving things out and over here to the house. I have some photos of the move to post but haven't had the time yet.

Plumbing is finished

The plumber finally got his stuff done. Once he got started it didn't take that long either.

The glass counter-tops were not done completely the way I wanted. I guess that is what I get for not going to the glass place to order them. They will work for now and at this exact moment that is all that matters.

The inspection takes place tomorrow so things are still on schedule for the movers to move me on Saturday.

Fireplace

The fireplace is now mostly finished (the lumber will obviously be moved at some point) now. Looks pretty good.

Update

Remember that list a few posts down? Well, the things still waiting to be done all relate to the plumber. Still no bathroom sinks and the master tub is just sitting there. Not completely sure what that does regarding the inspection tomorrow but I guess I will know tomorrow.

In other news, I picked up the basics for the closets except that Lowes was out of the brackets that I need. So sometime between not and Friday I need to make a return trip to pick those up. Tomorrow I am meeting the contractor at the house in the morning to discuss the installation of those.

Tonight I am packing at the apartment. Ugh – I hate it. However, I should get back to work anyway.

Garage door opener

I actually used the garage door openers this evening. I was able to take a load of pots & plants over and stowed them in the garage. I am thinking that I may clean this side of the garage up a bit and may move some stuff into it over the weekend. The partially depends on the weather, of course. The National Weather Service is now showing the range as being 3-7 inches of snow.

Crap.......per...

The plumber did get the toilets installed but did not get far on the bathroom sinks or the master tub. He is supposed to be back tomorrow but it now looks like the plumbing won't be finished until the first of next week. Because of this the cleaning crew has been re-scheduled until Tuesday which means I will be adjusting my weekend plans to move stuff into the house.

Update

As you can see from the earlier post, the plumbing is not finished yet.

Hopefully it gets done tomorrow (Friday).

A cleaning crew is supposed to clean the house on Saturday (which implies that things need to be nearly finished).

The city inspector was by today and said he will sign off on the occupancy permit once the plumbing is finished. Because of that I scheduled the telephone and cable to be installed on Thursday which also means that they will be un-hooked from my apartment. This may mean a few days without home internet access and certainly means a few days without TV.

I scheduled the movers for next Saturday so I have to kick the nightly packing routine up a notch or two. I feel better than I did about the basement although there is still a bunch of crap down there.

Showers

I can now take a shower in the house. This might seem to be something to celebrate except for the fact that I was expecting that nearly all the plumbing fixtures would be installed by the end of the day. Guess the plumber's statement that "we will be there until its finished" implied a long break. The contractor is getting a call tomorrow morning bright and early.

More marble

The marble guy came by and installed marble in my window sill above the kitchen sink. Nice, huh?

The bed

These photos do not do the bed justice. And when I was there I did not notice how filthy it is. Regardless, the master bedroom bed was delivered and assembled today (it is three pieces). I really like it. It is huge, however.

Mail

Today I got some REAL mail... I will also have a place to garden soon.

Bathrooms

The tile in the master shower is now up but still needs grout. You can also see the cabinet door to the left of the shower that the cabinet maker installed today. The tile in the guest bath has grout but still needs finishing out.

French doors

The french doors were re-installed and they now have their hardware.

Microwave cabinet doors

The cabinet maker was at the house today to install the alst things and he also made some adjustments to some things. The photo on the top is how the microwave cabinet looks now (four doors). The bottom photo is how it was (a drawer and a single flip-up door).

This and that

Lots of little things have been done over the past few days...

Thermostats were installed

Door stops were installed...

Hardware on the pocket doors was installed...

Knobs on the closet doors were installed...

And the cold air return grills were installed.

Update

My camera lens was foggy while I was taking these photos so they are not the best – not sure why they are both tilted the way they are (operator error). The first one is the fireplace with the dark stain and the second is the master shower with almost all its tile.

Things are getting closer. The plumber was at the house on Monday and installed a few things. The master tub faucet and the bathroom sink drains had not come in on Monday so he wasn’t able to knock many things out. All of those have arrived now so hopefully tomorrow will be a more productive day. Tonight the HVAC sub is at the house finishing things up and installed the vents and grates. Tomorrow the cabinet maker delivers my bed plus he will work on some things that need some adjustments. The tile in the bathrooms will be finished by the end of the week.

The inspector is going to come by Thursday to assess what needs to be done to get the occupancy permit. If everything I mentioned above gets done when it is supposed to I think the only things will be stairs off the deck and new stairs at the side door (or repaired stairs). So, if all goes well (or even reasonably well) I should have an occupancy permit by next weekend.

I haven’t scheduled the movers yet, however…

Stairs

They have not been stained yet (will match the stair steps) but I think they look pretty nifty.

Fireplace

This is what is looks like sanded down. I am having it stained to match the trim.

Kitchen

The appliances and the under-cabinet lights were installed today. The dishwasher still has the white protective film on it, btw.

Door knobs

It is a small thing but all the interior doors know have knobs...

Tile - guest bath

The tile in the guest bath was partially installed today.

Concrete

New concrete was poured today. From top to bottom, it is:

-garage (the existing concrete had a hig point in the center so there would have been gaps on either end when it was closed)

-basement (closing the holes dug for the new plumbing)

-pad at the bottom of the stairs off the deck

-capping the stairs to the basement and covering a hole where plumbing was installed

Update con't

I forgot to mention that the garage doors are supposed to be installed on Wednesday.

The weather forecast does not have any rain in it with decent temperatures (especially for January) so there shouldn't be any excuses for not getting things done outside.

Update

This weekend I took some measurements and counted things that I need to buy (door stops, hooks for behind doors, etc). I also got the serial numbers off the appliances so I can send in the rebate paperwork and swapped out some light bulbs. Here is what is supposed to take place over the coming week:

-tile is supposed to be installed in the guest bath shower and then the master shower
-the plumber is supposed to be back to install fixtures such as the upstairs toilets, faucets, bathroom sinks, the big tub, the showers (after the tile), and the dishwasher
-the rest of the appliances should be installed (the dishwasher and stove)
-a concrete sub is fixing the entry to the east garage door, pouring a pad at the bottom of the deck stairs, fixing the holes in the basement (from the new plumbing) and capping the stairs to the basement (weather permitting)
-the floor sub is supposed to buff and poly the second floor hardwoods (which was supposed to happen last week)
-the cabinet maker is delivering the master bedroom bed and modifying the microwave cabinet (depending on the floor sub)
-the remaining light fixtures will be installed

Granted, I don’t really think all of these will get done but they could and should. I didn’t get anything moved over this weekend because things aren’t done enough over there. Hopefully this coming weekend I will be able to do that. I really want to avoid the last minute rush to get moved in if I can avoid it.

Countertops

The granite countertops were installed yesterday. I think they look VERY good!
